Work Day Saturday, August 28
It’s time to beat back the summer’s growth on the trail from Chesterfield Landing to Lickinghole Creek. We will be using loppers, pruners, string trimmers and maybe a saw or two to widen and freshen up the trail we opened up last fall. We may also work on the beginning of a trail from the creek up towards Sparrow Hill. Everyone is welcome! Come when you can and leave when you must.
Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the trail entrance in Chesterfield Landing, across the street from 5436 Oxbow Drive. Please be careful not to block mailboxes or driveways!
Wear sturdy shoes and BUG SPRAY! Long pants and sleeves recommended. Bring your own water, and plenty of it. We have tools, or bring your own favorites if you prefer. We should be done in approximately 2 hours.
Sign up is not required, but if you do, we can get in touch with you if needed for a change in weather or other unforeseen circumstance. Sign up here.
Have You Seen Bigfoot?
Is it true? Was Bigfoot spotted on Crozet’s Trails?
Yes it’s true! Can you find him?
Some trail users have spotted Bigfoot! Check out their photos.
It appears that Bigfoot has left Crozet, but we hope to see him return again!
The Find Bigfoot Challenge, sponsored by the Crozet Trails Crew, is a hunt for the elusive creature that you can enjoy while exploring Crozet’s trails. Starting August 6, Bigfoot will be lurking somewhere on the trails, so be aware of your surroundings when walking, biking or running. Not to worry, he won’t attack! How to play (it’s really easy):
- Watch out for clues on the Crozet Trails Crew Facebook page and on NextDoor.
- When sighted, approach cautiously, he is very shy.
- Take a selfie with Bigfoot. Get up close, he’s shy but likes attention.
- Submit the photo in the form below. Include your name, telephone number and email.
- The first selfie received in each location wins a fashionable and highly coveted Crozet Trails Crew baseball hat.
Bigfoot will be lurking around the trails throughout August. There will be several chances to spot him to win a CTC hat. Share the fun with your friends and neighbors by posting your adventure on the Crozet Trails Facebook site!
July Has Been a Blast
This month has been busy and lots of fun for the Trails Crew. We marched in the Independence Day parade and sold beer at the park afterwards. It was disconcerting to sell out a bit after 8:30, but it’s not up to us to buy it – we just serve it up. Then we had our Open House and Amphitheater dedication at Mint Springs Park. If you haven’t seen “The Little Amphitheater” we built there last year, be sure to look for it next time you’re out there for a hike. With a storm or two needing some trail clearing, and a work day on Saturday, July 24, we also did some honest work.
Info about Saturday’s work day is here. See you there!

Let’s Have a Party! (updated)
In March of 2020, the Trails Crew finished a big (well, big for us!) project, when Albemarle County Parks & Recreation asked if we would build an amphitheater at Mint Springs Park. We cleared an area, constructed a small stage, and built rows of bench seating. Just as we finished, the world shut down!
We haven’t had a chance to celebrate our achievement yet, but that’s changing.
Come to Mint Springs on Sunday, July 18, at 4:00 p.m. for a party and Open House. Learn how our construction project is connected to the Beatles. (Yes, really!) Have some pizza and lemonade. And best of all, get to meet the folks in the Trails Crew and find out how you can help build and improve the lovely Crozet Greenway that’s developing into a treasured natural getaway and a safe, car-free connection among Crozet neighborhoods.
The inaugural act on the stage — Live music provided by the Crozet Jam Band led by Jim Pyles
Everyone is welcome! Bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic drinks if you like. And your calendar, so you can sign up to help on one of our work days. Tell the cashier at the park gate you are attending the Crozet Trails Crew Amphitheater Party and park admission will be waived if you enter at about 4:00. (Doesn’t work for the whole day!)
LOCATION: In Mint Springs Park, drive to the farthest (large) parking lot, you will see the swimming beach to the left. The stage is to the right of the kiosk straight ahead of you in the lot.
