Workdays this Saturday (2)

We had a good trail workday this past weekend. We did the rough clearing of the re-routed trail next to the stream behind Henley. We had a couple new helpers- two Sophomore class officers from WAHS. They are organizing the James Sun Memorial 5k race to take plave on April 28th:

The James Sun Memorial 5K Race will be held in Old Trail Village Saturday, April 28th. Registration begins at 7:45am; race start is 9am.

James Sun, a member of the current Sophomore Class at Western Albemarle High School, was killed in a car accident while skateboarding near his home in 2011. The 5K race, organized by James’s former classmates, will raise funds to install a tree and plaque in his memory at the High School. As a request from the Sun family, additional funds raised will go to The Compassionate Friends, a non-profit group that supports parents who have lost a child.

The 5K course will begin and end at the Old Trail Village Center, following most of the Lindy Bain Cross Country Course in Old Trail Village.

To register for this event, please visit the Ragged Mountain Running Shop website to download the form. Volunteers are also needed; email the Sophomore Class of WAHS at: wahs2014@gmail.com.

Since we’d llike to have the newly re-routed trail ready by the race, we will have a workday this Saturday, April 7th. Meet at Trailside Coffee at 9am and be ready for tread-work.

I know this is also a workday at Byrom Park, another important project in western Albemarle County. Please feel free to attend either workday– it should be a great weekend for the trails!
