  • Updates from “Action Items” from last meeting *
Jessica M.-Work with Leslie on T-shirt design options-Yes, will talk about this towards the end of the meeting
Mike G.- Contact school officials- He did, and has updatesDan M.- Flag the trail corridor- Lickinghole to Cory Farms – A group was able to flag a good portion of the trail. We, or the County, will need to build a temporary bridge across creek (approx.15-20ft.) until eastern connector boulevard (road will include bike lanes) is built. Clearing can begin on the lowland loop, but we would like to get a load of woodchips to cover the lowland trail. The portion of the trail that will meander through the narrow section needs to be studied a few more times before clearing begins. We hope to “survey” more sections of the overall trail in the upcoming weeks.
  • Discussion of Building (Labor) activities:
o Work at Mint Springs Park (status of “the eastern overlook”, other projects)- Nan C. said that much of the Easter Overlook has been completed. Jessica will contact Tucker Rollins to see what the high-priority projects for Mint Springs are at this point.o Section of Crozet Connector Trail near Westgate (Jessica M.)- We need to visit this area a few more times before all clearing can be completed. We need to establish a stream crossing and investigate the southern section that will connect to Cory Farms.
When is the Eastern Connector road slated to be built?o “Survey” more trail segments (Dan M.)- Perhaps this Saturday.
Go back to Grayrock project- We need to select a day this Spring to continue our work on the Grayrock Ponds trail. It is important to get the Grayrock community involved as well.

WE WILL MEET AT CROZET PARK SATURDAY, FEB.12 at 9AM

  • Discussion of Planning (Logistics) activities:
o CTC run/bike event (David O.) – David has made contact with Kim (Anytime Fitness) and they will begin working on a plan/ coming up with options.o Kids walking/ biking to school (Mike G.) – We’d like to organize event in May + international event in Oct. – Mike G. will go to the PTO meetings for each school to make a presentation for encouraging safe walking/biking routes (Safe Routes to School & Let’s Move). Dean Schott passed along some handouts that can be duplicated and distributed to kids and their parents about safety in walking/biking to school. Mike has coordinated with some teachers/PTO representatives/school organizers and discussed the idea of partnering to make safe routes. Responses have been positive. A tie-in with the PE teachers seems to be a good avenue.

    * Send any links (websites) to Jessica to add to our CTC blog.

o Informational booth at Great Valu? (Alex G.) Recruitment for our group – getting the word out to other groups – like bird groups, etc.

o T-shirts! Sponsors! And free cups! (Jessica M.) Leslie B.(graphic designer) & Melody(Anytime Fitness) & Blue Ridge Graphics(print the shirts). Goal: to give t-shirts to those who donate time or money to our group. We got a preview of the shirts – very nice! Need to work on sponsors next meeting.

Crozet Trail Days (2nd Sat. in Oct) – we’ll need to start working on this event in the near future. Design a route to go from merchant to merchant to encourage the community to walk and/or bike + CTC have a booth.

  • Next steps- next Group meeting – Thursday, March 10th (Jessica M.)
  • Adjourn
