The Crozet Trails Crew is hosting its annual race day on Saturday, October 26th at 10 am at Crozet Park. This year’s event includes a 5K, Family Fun Run, and 10K options. By joining in, not only are you signing up for a rugged adventure through Crozet’s rustic trails, but you’re also helping fund the bridge that will link our communities together. Whether you’re in it to win the 5K and have a bridge named after you, enjoy a leisurely Family Fun Run, or test your endurance on the new 10k Trail Race, we’ve got you covered. This year we’re also excited to be offering chip timing.
After the race, join us for a fantastic post-race pancake breakfast at Crozet Park – complete with live music (from Susie and the Pistols) and refreshing Starr Hill beer, all to support the Crozet Trails Crew. Don’t miss out on the fun – or the t-shirt – sign up before October 23rd!

Saturday, September 14 – 1:00pm
Have you wondered about Crozet’s awesome trails? Join us on Saturday, September 14 at 1:00pm for a guided trail walk with the Crozet Trails Crew to see some trail highlights accessible from your front door! This is a 3 mile walk that will take about 1 1/2 hours. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle, and bug spray isn’t a bad idea either. School aged kids and older are welcome.
Where to meet
We will meet at the bank of mailboxes on Arboleda Drive between Dunwood and Giralda, across from 742 Arboleda Drive.

Saturday, September 21
The Crozet Car Show has generously designated the Crozet Trails Crew as this year’s non-profit beneficiary. It will take place at Pollak Vineyards in Greenwood. Participants and spectators will be treated to a beautiful venue at the foot of the Blue Ridge and may enjoy food, music, wine tastings, DJ and raffle prizes.

Expect muddy/slippery areas on the trail after a significant rain, so be sure to wear good shoes or boots.
Sunday, March 24, 1:00 p.m. leaving from Claudius Crozet Park.
Take a walk with members of the Trails Crew from Crozet Park to Lickinghole Basin. While passing several Crozet neighborhoods you will see where there are access points to the Crozet Greenway. At the far end, Lickinghole Basin is a noted location for bird life, including a bald eagles’ nest.
Approximately 4 miles round trip on uneven grass and dirt trails, mostly flat. Meet at the kiosk above the eastern end of the parking lot (if driving, enter Crozet Park and turn right towards the baseball fields) at 1:00. Expect to take about between 2-3 hours, depending on participants.

We have been working closely with the county Parks & Recreation department to plan some trail additions in Western Park. Our most recent project was to re-open a trail that goes through an often-swampy area. We will improve the trail by adding a narrow bog bridge.
The first phase requires one or two people on Wednesday, February 21, to cut lumber. Sign up here to meet at the Miyamoto’s home at 9:00 a.m., address will be supplied. We need people who are comfortable using a power saw.
The big day of construction will be the morning of Saturday, February 24, at the eastern end of Ashlar Avenue (behind the Lodge at Old Trail). Many people are needed to install a long stretch of bridge. You will be working on wet, boggy ground, so dress accordingly — you will need boots and work gloves. If you have a cordless impact driver or drill, please bring it, as well as star (torx) bits if you have them.
Activities include:
Site preparation using string trimmers, loppers, etc.
Removing the old walkway
Construction of lumber walk sections
Moving sections and materials to site
Linking sections togetherIf you sign up here we can notify you of any changes, but feel free to come even if you weren’t able to plan ahead. Please review our safety guidelines before joining a work day.

On Saturday, August 12 at 9:00 a.m., take a walk with the trails crew to look at some areas of interest along Lickinghole Creek. We will visit the area where we are planning to build a pedestrian/bike bridge over Lickinghole Creek, connecting Cory Farm, Sparrow Hill, and Chesterfield Landing to the neighborhoods already benefitting from the Crozet Connector Trail. We will also visit the proposed site of Eastern Avenue and adjacent development. Along the way we will find some delightful places to play in the stream, and to break off for bird watching or longer walks.
Meet at the Trails Crew sign near the entrance to the Dog Park in Crozet Park. If you drive, allow extra time for parking, as the park tends to be busy on Saturday mornings. Our walk will be a little over 2 miles on trails and sidewalks. Wear sturdy shoes and a hat, bring your own water. Bug spray strongly advised!

Take a break from taxes and clear your head with a spring walk to a hidden gem. Lickinghole Basin is an exciting destination, one of the best places to see birds in Albemarle County. Even if you’re not an avid birder, it’s a beautiful walk, and we may see the bald eagles nesting across the lake.
Meet at the entrance to the Dog Park at Claudius Crozet Park promptly at 1:00 to join the Trails Crew on a walk out to Lickinghole Basin and back. Total distance is approximately 4 miles on dirt and grass trails. We will probably take about 1.5-2hours. Wear sturdy shoes and bring your own water. Bug spray highly recommended, as it is always tick season!

Get to know the Crozet Connector Trail with the Trails Crew!
Our next walk will be Sunday, March 20, at 1:00. Starting from Crozet Park, we will walk the loop of the Crozet Connector Trail, with an emphasis on where the connections to the various neighborhoods can be found. If you don’t know where the trail is, or how to navigate its entirety, here’s your chance for a walk with the Crew.
Meet at the kiosk next to the eastern end of the parking lot (turn right from the main entrance road, kiosk is on the hill above the far end of the lot). The walk is about 3 miles and it generally takes us about 2 hours. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Bug spray is highly recommended. Kids welcome if accompanied by an adult. Check here after noon on that day for cancellations if the weather looks iffy.
