The Trails Crew was out at Lickinghole Basin again, to replace a bridge that had seen better days. The weather cooperated, and we had enough hands to finish up while the sun was still shining. Thanks especially to Lucas and Andy, from the Field School, for their interest in trail development.  

The crew had a productive morning re-routing the trail around a marshy spot on the basin and placing our first bench, in a nice shady spot with a view of the water birds. It’s just a short walk to enjoy the natural beauty of this lovely area right in Crozet!  

Spring weather has brought out the Trails Crew on several work days recently. We have made improvements to a bridge next to the Dog Park in Crozet Park, adding hand rails. Members of the Trails Crew trimmed up the Connector Trail between Westhall and Foothills Crossing, including removal of a small tree that had fallen across the trail. Ten trail lovers showed up to tidy up the Creekside Trail in Old Trail. It’s in good shape and ready to walk! Just watch out for the muddy entrance to the trail at the western end, due to ongoing construction in the area. Thanks to all who came to help on a cold morning.

We will have a work day on Saturday, February 27, starting at 9:00 a.m.. on the Creekside Trail. The work may include digging a shallow ditch to drain part of the trail, digging out tree stumps, and additional pruning and trimming. Check our calendar for directions to the location.
